The most important commercial garden plants are: Begonia, Pelargonium, Buxus, Viola, Osteospermum, Petunia, Fuchsia, Hydrangea (see cut flowers), Rosa, Helleborus etc. Some aspects of research on Helleborus and Fuchsia carried
out in the ornamental breeding group are listed below.


In Genomic in situ hybridization studies the genomic constitition of Elatior interspecific hybrids (crosses of tuberous begonia and B. socotrana) could be identified, no intergenomic recombination could be detected (Marasek et al, 2010)
